Understanding the Various Types of Interior Doors

Barbara Gilbert, an interior designer once said, “The door is like a cover of a book. It should attract people so they want to open it.” and we couldn’t agree more. The type of doors you choose for your home can dramatically affect your home’s interior, your privacy, noise control and overall feel of the place. Therefore, a lot of thinking and evaluation is required before buying a new door.

Choosing the correct door style, selecting the material for the door and consequently its preferable finish are the three main steps involved in selecting a door for your home. The styling of your door depends on what kind of look you wish to give to your house. For example, heritage interior doors will give a distinguished and royal appeal to your interiors; glass doors will make your house look more spacious, etc. However, before door styles one important criterion to be checked is the primary function and usage of the door you’re choosing. Below mentioned are the most popular types of interior doors that can be selected.

Panel Doors

Panel doors are the most commonly used interior doors for residential buildings. They have square or rectangular patterns ranging from a single large panel to eight or more small panels. Most people prefer to choose from the three-panel mission, five panel equal or the standard whole panel door.

Flush Doors

Flush doors are simple doors with a completely flat surface on both sides. These doors give a clean and timeless feel to your home. They are widely used to provide a minimalist look and are quite reasonably priced.

Bifold Doors

Bifold doors are a set of interior doors hinged together that fold into each other and are mounted and hung from a track. They are commonly used in areas like bedroom closets, pantries or laundry room. These doors are apt for small spaces as they provide more space than a sliding door.

Premium Doors

Premium doors are valued for their unique beauty and remarkably high quality. As these doors are denser than a standard Should say 'hollow or poly core door, they provide better noise control and privacy. There are a wide variety of design options available for these beautiful doors. People who prefer the door to make a huge statement in their house choose this type of door.

French Doors

French doors offer a dramatic appeal to your home. They hang on hinges located at each side of a wide door opening and swing towards each other, meeting at the center, thus providing an unobstructed view. These doors are commonly used to highlight some particular areas like music room, living room, etc.

Sliding Doors

Hanging two or more interior doors on a mounted track is how a sliding door works. They do not swing, so are used only if there is scanty floor space. However, they do require space to the right or left of each door to be a wide enough entry into the door’s room.

Pocket Doors

Pocket door is an eternal door style that has recently come back with a bang. Basically, it is a door that is not set on hinges to swing open, but that slides in and out of a space hidden within the wall, thus saving floor space. Pocket doors come either as singles, which slide open and shut from either the left or the right, or double pocket doors, which slide together and meet in the middle from both the right and left sides.

As per your availability of floor space, the look you wish to give to your house, usage; etc you can select the most suitable door for your house or can even have a mix and match for the various rooms in the house.
